General Machinist
Elevation Recruitment are working on behalf of a Rotherham-based manufacturer to recruit a General Machinist. This role will involve heavy machining and includes work across Vertical Boring, Trepanning and Milling. This is a great opportunity to join a well-established engineering environment working on large-scale components and precision-machined parts.Shift Pattern: Days only role.Salary: starting at £16 per hourLocation: Rotherham.Responsibilities
- Set up and operate a range of machinery including Vertical Boring, Trepanning, Milling and other general machining equipment to produce components to drawing specifications.
- Carry out heavy machining operations on large components, castings and forgings, ensuring safe handling and accurate set-up throughout the process.
- Machine components through boring, trepanning, milling, facing and related operations in line with engineering and quality requirements.
- Interpret engineering drawings, route cards and machining instructions to manufacture parts to the required tolerances and finish standards.
- Select suitable tooling, speeds and feeds to achieve safe, efficient machining performance and consistent quality.
- Conduct in-process inspection checks using measuring equipment to verify dimensions, concentricity and surface finish.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised work area while carrying out routine machine checks and supporting continuous production flow.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a General Machinist within a heavy engineering, manufacturing or precision machining environment.
- Proven ability to set up and operate machinery such as Vertical Borers, Trepanning machines, Milling machines and related workshop equipment.
- Experience machining heavy components, castings, forgings or large-diameter materials would be highly beneficial.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions and technical specifications.
- Confidence using measuring equipment and working accurately to tight tolerances and quality standards.
- A strong awareness of health and safety, particularly when handling large and heavy components.
- A reliable and proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a skilled engineering team.
